WDFAS News
12th August 2010
An large amount of work (and printers' charges) is involved in printing and distributing the AGM papers, such as accounts, agenda, nominations, committee report, minutes of previous AGM, etc. This also leads to inflexibility in that the AGM papers have to be produced quite far ahead, which can be inconvenient, eg at a time when the present committee is still looking for replacement committee members. To reduce this work, expense and inflexibility, this year (like a number of other organisations) the AGM papers will be placed on our website, in the AGM section, where members can read and, if they wish, print them out for themselves. Also these papers will be emailed to all members for whom we have email addresses (about half).
For those without access to the internet:
- there will be paper copies available at the AGM
- the AGM papers were displayed on our noticeboard at the August meeting
- at the June meeting Hugh Walker asked members without internet access who wanted paper copies of the AGM documentation prior to the AGM to make this known to a committee member, and a copy would be posted to them in advance of the AGM
- if you do go on to email, please would you let us have your email address
The AGM papers are now in the AGM section of this website. The AGM meeting on 8th September starts at 10.00 rather than the usual starting time of 10.30. Coffee will be served from 9.30.
Help Please - We urgently need three new committee members to be responsible for our Lecture Programme, Visits and Heritage Volunteers/Young Arts. Committee members usually serve a term of 3 years, they need to be on email, and normally able to attend the monthly lecture meetings and one committee meeting each month. If you would like to know more about serving on the committee, please send an email to chairman@EXCLUDEweybridgedfas.org.uk (omitting the letters EXCLUDE) or ring Hugh Walker on 01932 842885. We hope to hear from you.
Digital projection. We have just bought our own digital projection equipment. This was used for the first time at the June lecture, and also for the August lecture.
The extended visit for 2011 will be to Krakow; details will be available, and bookings taken, at the September and October 2010 meetings.
Welcome to WDFAS
Weybridge Decorative & Fine Arts Society (“WDFAS”) was founded in 2000. We are affiliated to the National Association for Decorative & Fine Arts (“NADFAS”).
NADFAS comprises Member Societies throughout the country whose aim is to increase enjoyment and knowledge of the arts and to stimulate interest in the preservation of our cultural heritage. The first Society was founded in Buckinghamshire in 1965 by the late Patricia Fay OBE and there are now over 320 societies with a membership of over 88,000.
We have 284 members.
Our primary activity is a programme of events with a guest speaker. These talks take place at Whiteley Village Hall, Octagon Road, off Burwood Road, Walton-on-Thames, Surrey KT12 4EH, at 10.30 am on the second Wednesday of each month (except July). Click here for a location map.

We also arrange visits to local places of interest, and trips abroad.
There are also special interest days, which are usually held at the Riverhouse Barn in Walton-on-Thames. Click here for a location map.

WDFAS supports the Young Arts in Weybridge and local area by contributing to an arts activity for young people between the ages of 8 and 18.
Under the auspices of NADFAS, volunteers from WDFAS are helping to record our cultural heritage.
